As I'm getting ready to leave the most common thing I hear said is "be safe". Which of course the concern is much appreciated. When you think about it though, I could just as easily get hit by a crazy cab driver in downtown minneapolis because I crossed the road without the little "walk guy" lit up on the light. Yes, this did happen to someone-or nearly happen, the other night. I was in a taxi and the driver flew through the intersection (he was definatly not going the speed limit at all) and there were two guys in their 20s crossing the street, the taxi driver realized it just in time and slammed on his brakes. The two men jumped out of the way, almost so high I thought they were going to land on the taxi; and yes, it turns out the surprised deer in the headlights look applies to people too. The funniest part about it was that they apologized to the taxi...usually people scream and curse. I think they were so frightened and overwhelmed they were just greatful their night wasn't cut short by a crazy cab driver. And I don't even know what this cab driver's excuse was for driving so crazy, its not like he was high on khat.....
It's all relative, dangerous surprises are everywhere: Whether its IED's on the road or crazy cab drivers, you tell me to be safe then l'lI tell you look both ways before crossing =P
